How Do Events and Convoys Work on Spota? The Complete Guide

🗓️ "Who's Down This Weekend?" Shouldn't Take Forty Texts

Every car scene has this problem. Someone floats an idea in the group chat. Ten people say "I'm down." Three actually confirm a time. One person shows up at the wrong lot. By the time everyone's actually rolling, half the day's gone and the group chat's still arguing about where to park.

Spota's answer is Events and Convoys: two features built to turn a vague idea into a real plan with a real time, a real place, and a real headcount, without a single "bump" text.

They're related but not the same thing, and knowing the difference makes both of them a lot more useful.

📍 What an Event Actually Is

An Event on Spota is a scheduled car meetup with a fixed time and location that people can RSVP to ahead of time. Think a Cars and Coffee, a club cruise night, a photography meetup at a scenic overlook, a car show watch party, anything with a "this is happening here, at this time" shape to it.

Anyone can create one. A Club can create one for its members. And once it's live, it shows up on the map for nearby users the same way a Photo Op or a collectible does, so people who aren't already in your group chat can find it and RSVP.

What creating an event actually gets you:

  • A fixed time and location other users can see and plan around
  • An RSVP list, so you know who's actually coming instead of guessing off "likes" on a post
  • Visibility on the map, meaning strangers in your city who share your scene can discover it organically
  • A feed tied to the event itself, where attendees can post photos and updates during and after

RSVPing works the way you'd expect: find an event on the map or in a Club's page, tap RSVP, and it lands on your calendar inside the app. Creating or RSVPing to events also counts toward your XP, same as finishing a playlist or knocking out a Photo Op.

Spota tip: an event tied to a Club tends to pull a bigger, more reliable crowd than a solo post, because it's showing up on every member's map automatically instead of relying on someone remembering to share it.

🚗 What a Convoy Actually Is

A Convoy is different. Where an Event is a destination, a Convoy is the drive itself: a group of cars moving together in real time, from point A to point B (or just cruising with no fixed endpoint at all).

You can host a Convoy or join one that's already rolling nearby. Once you're in, you can see the other cars in your group on the live map for the duration of the drive, which solves the single most annoying part of any group cruise: losing half the pack at the first red light and spending the next ten minutes texting "where are you guys."

A Convoy is built for the actual driving part of car culture:

  • Cruise nights where the point is the drive, not a destination
  • Meet-to-meet drives, rolling as a group from one event to the next
  • Charity or awareness drives, where a coordinated group of cars moves together for a cause
  • Spontaneous "let's just drive" sessions that don't need a whole event page built around them

Because it's live and location-based, a Convoy naturally plugs into Spota's Go Live and privacy controls. Default visibility is limited to nearby users and whoever's actually in your Convoy, sessions end when the drive's over, and Ghost Mode still applies if you want your route wiped from history afterward. A Convoy is about staying connected to your group during a drive, not broadcasting your route to the entire app.

🔗 How Events and Convoys Work Together

The two aren't competing features, they're built to chain. A typical flow looks like this: a Club creates an Event for Saturday morning at a specific lot. People RSVP through the week so the host has a real headcount instead of a guess. Saturday morning, a few members who live near each other start a Convoy to drive over together, showing up as a group on the map the whole way. Everyone lands at the Event at roughly the same time, the feed fills up with photos, and the whole thing counts toward XP at every step: RSVPing, driving the Convoy, checking in, posting from the event.

None of that needs a group chat, a shared spreadsheet, or someone playing event coordinator by text. It's the same idea behind Playlists and Clubs: give car people the actual tools to organize instead of expecting a 200-member group chat to somehow self-organize on its own.

🙋 Do I Need a Club to Use Either One?

No. Events and Convoys both work standalone. You don't need to be in a Club to create an event, RSVP to one, host a Convoy, or join one someone else started nearby. Being in a Club just means the Events and Convoys your crew creates show up automatically for everyone in it, which is what makes group organizing effortless instead of manual.

If you're not in a Club yet and want to see how that side works, check out how Clubs work on Spota first, then come back and start your own Event.

Stop losing half your group to a dead group chat. Create the Event, start the Convoy, and let the map do the coordinating.
